Branding
This page looks into my experience with branding with my band and how we brand ourselves on social media and with a logo

OUR LOGO
The Inner Circle
My friends and I formed a band in the September of 2022 and we set about to create a logo. The three squares represent the aquarium in our city and is reassembled by the shape. Our guitarist was studying a-level media design so had the tools to create digital media. We were inspired by 'the stone roses' hence the use of bubble writing and also 'frank Turner' who uses the punk cross symbol as his tour backdrop (FTHC) as seen below.

Branding and Partnership
'To Hull and Back' - podcast
After gaining a local following in our hometown, an award winning podcast contacted us to use one of our songs as their intro song to the podcast they run. the podcast is a Hull City AFC themed debate show that discusses the game played and also transfer news and updates. As Hull fans ourselves this was pretty big for us as the podcast was known and we did see an increase in our followers due to this.

Social Media
Being in college, social media was our primary focus when trying to reach an audience. we had loyal friends who would come to our shows but it was our social media presence that helped us reach a wider audience. Recently, since reforming, we have re started our social media content and trying to be more active in the run up to our upcoming EP.
As seen in the photos - our Spotify has kept the same photo of us from 18 years old but we have started to post on instagram and on stories to let followers know we have an upcoming project.
Inspiration
Frank Turner
Frank Turner embodied the Hard Core Punk Rock crossed symbol and redesigned it to read FTHC. this was effective with his audience when moving from a hard core punk rock artist in his band Million Dead to a folk rock solo artist.

Reflection
“A brand is the set of expectations, memories, stories and relationships that, taken together, account for a consumer’s decision to choose one product or service over another.” Seth Godin (2009)
This is an interesting take from an author on the business side of looking at branding. Interestingly I think it fits the philosophy for music also especially considering the personal connections one has to their favourite song or band. Music is art and it's perceptive on how you react to it can vary and it is all about the unique memories or stories that one like myself associates with a band or a piece of music that I like.
Recently one of my favourite indie bands called 'the lottery winners' released a new track called 'your last song' which I had a deep personal connection to. It resonated with me because of the memories it brought to my attention and the relationship I compared it to but it also was expected because I already knew what this band has to offer. Therefore I knew a song by them which carries emotional context would resonate with me because I am a consumer of theirs as they are a band that I like.
In my band our target audience and consumers are young people who like indie music. We play covers by bands such as Oasis and the Fratellis in an attempt to market ourselves to an audience of their fans as that's who inspires us to make music.
